Head Coach - Blake Maxwell

Blake Maxwell joins the Braves baseball coaching staff for the 2013-2014 season. Originally from Hope Mills, N.C., Maxwell will work primarily with the pitching staff.
Maxwell served as the pitching coach for the Woodstock River Bandits of the Valley Baseball League in the summer of 2013. The River Bandits won the North Division title in the regular season and made the Valley League playoffs. Maxwell also served as an assistant coach for the Methodist University Monarchs during the 2013 season and helped lead the Monarchs to the USA South Conference Tournament title and NCAA South Regional.
Maxwell was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 40th round of the 2005 Major League Draft. Maxwell spent seven seasons in the Red Sox organization and made it as high as Triple-A. In his professional career Maxwell threw 600.1 innings. Maxwell appeared in 276 games, including 40 starts. He compiled a record of 42 wins, 33 losses, and 44 saves. His career ERA was 3.76. Maxwell finished fifth in the California League, first in the Southern Division, in ERA for the 2008 season. Maxwell won the 2009 Portland Sea Dogs Citizen of the Year Award for his extensive work in the community. Maxwell was selected as a 2010 Milb.com Organizational All-Star for the Red Sox after going 11-1 on the season. In 2011 Maxwell was one of two minor league pitchers to join the Boston Red Sox at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas for a Major League exhibition game versus the Houston Astros. Maxwell threw a scoreless inning in the game.
Maxwell attended Methodist University and served as the closer for the Monarch pitching staff from 2003-2005. He helped lead the Monarchs to the 2004 USA South Conference Tournament title and the 2005 USA South Regular-Season Conference title. He was a two time All-Region selection (‘04, ‘05) and first team All-Conference in 2005. He holds the school record for career ERA (1.70), career saves (22), and single season saves (9 – ‘04, ‘05). Maxwell also served as a part-time DH for a portion of his career with the Monarchs and was selected as the All-Tournament DH in the 2004 NCAA South Regional.
Maxwell graduated from Methodist University magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education & Health Education in May of 2013. He is currently pursuing his master’s degree in Coaching & Athletic Administration from Concordia University – Irvine.
Asst. Coach - Tyler Younger

Tyler Younger is from Chatham, VA and he attended Chatham High School. Younger attended Methodist University where he earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Physical Education and Health Education. He is currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Parks, Recreation, Tourism, and Sport Management at NC State.
During Younger’s career at Methodist he compiled a .295 batting average with 7 home runs and 99 rbi's. He had a career fielding percentage of .994. Younger was a four time Academic All-Conference Selection, as well as, Methodist's 2012-2013 Male Scholar Athlete of the Year. He also played for Coach Blake Maxwell during the 2012-2013 season.
Tyler played for the Florence RedWolves for a few days during the 2011 season. He is currently a graduate student manager for the NC State baseball team. His duties consists of catching bullpens, helping with drills in practice, and anything else that needs to be done to ensure the team’s success.
Asst Coach Brandon Thigpen

Brandon Thigpen joins the RedWolves coaching staff for the summer of 2014. A native of Wallace, NC, Brandon is currently an Assistant Coach at Methodist University where he works with outfielders, hitters, and any other duty necessary to help the team be successful. He attended East Duplin High School and played baseball and football for four years. Out of high school Thigpen attended Methodist University and played for the Monarchs from 2010-2013. As a member of the team he played outfield, first base, DH, and pitched. For his career, Thigpen hit .311 with 20 home runs, 34 doubles, and drove in 113 runs. On the mound he was 3-2 with 3.03 ERA. In 2011 he was selected as a 2nd Team All-Conference outfielder. Thigpen was named as a captain for his team in 2012 and 2013. In 2013 he was the USA South Tournament MVP and a member of the All-Tournament Team in addition he was selected to the 2013 USA South All Sportsmanship team. He was also the Team MVP for 2013 and earned 3rd team ABCA All South Region honors. The summer of 2011, Brandon played for the Florence RedWolves under head coach Blake Newsome, and also played for the Morganton Aggies in the SCBL where he was selected to the SCBL All-Star team. In 2012 was selected to the VBL All-Star team while playing for the Rockbridge Rapids. Thigpen played under RedWolves current head coach, Blake Maxwell, in 2013 at Methodist University.
